Prepare Your Home for Your HVAC Installation Appointment

Wow, are you ever going to enjoy that new HVAC system! You’ll be so impressed with how effective and efficient today’s heaters, heat pumps, and air conditioners are. But before you can kick back in comfort, you’ve got an installation appointment. What should you know before your HVAC installation? What can you do to prepare your home and make sure it goes smoothly? We’ve got the answers.

What to Expect During Your HVAC Installation

When your installers arrive, they’ll get the lay of the land and make a plan of attack. Then they’ll do any preparation they need to, like clearing space and perhaps laying down a drop cloth or taking other measures to protect your home. They’ll disconnect and remove the old system. They’ll put the new system in and connect it.

Is that it? Not quite. They’ll turn the system on and let it run for a bit, making sure everything is as it should be. During this time, they’ll give you pointers on how to use the system, answer any questions you have, and give you your owner’s manual. They’ll tidy up and say farewell. Now it’s time to kick back in comfort! The whole process should take eight hours or less.

Prepare Your Home for HVAC Installation

To help streamline things, you can do some of the preparation yourself. This involves thinking about how the installers will be approaching. Where will they park? What door should they bring large appliances through? Where do they need space to work?

Clear up anything you can. Move bicycles or bird baths that block the path to the door, tidy up any clutter on the floor, and push furniture aside to make elbow room. If this is a heat pump or AC installation, clear space around the outdoor unit by trimming plants, raking, hosing, or anything that’s necessary. If it’s a heating installation, plenty of space around the heating system is necessary anyway, to prevent fire hazards.

Prepare Yourself

Clear your schedule for the day. That way, if your installation does take the full eight hours, you won’t be stressed or rushed. Then prepare a list of questions so you won’t forget anything. Your technicians are the perfect people to ask about things like how to change the air filter or what other maintenance is necessary.

Prepare Your Pets

HVAC technicians love furry friends just as much as anyone else. What we really don’t want is to risk causing them any harm! Your installation will include open doors they could slip through, packaging they could eat, and feet whose owners are watching the appliance they’re carrying and not keeping a lookout for little paws.

Shut your pets away safely elsewhere during your HVAC installation. This will keep them safe. It will also speed up the process of your installation, since your technicians will be able to stay completely focused. (Petting your furry friends could be distracting and time-consuming!)
